Fasting Requirements

Fasting begins the evening before your screening. Fasting duration varies slightly by screening type:

• General screening: Light dinner around 7 PM, fast after 9 PM
• Colonoscopy (morning): Fast from lunch the day before
• Colonoscopy (afternoon): Fast from 4-5 PM the day before

Dietary Restrictions

Improper dietary control before colonoscopy may result in food residue preventing accurate examination

• 2-3 days before comprehensive screening: Avoid red meat, alcohol, and overexertion
• 2-3 days before colonoscopy: Avoid seeded fruits (kiwi, watermelon, grapes, melon), mixed grain rice, seaweed

For Female Patients

• If pregnancy is possible: Pregnancy confirmation is mandatory before screening
• If pregnant: X-ray and sedated endoscopy are not permitted
• If breastfeeding: Breast examination, contrast examinations, and sedated endoscopy may be restricted
• During menstruation: Comprehensive screening is possible, but urinalysis and cervical cancer screening may be restricted

Other Considerations

• Eye examination: Glasses recommended instead of contact lenses (hard lenses may restrict examination)
• Avoid wearing accessories (necklaces, earrings, rings, piercings)
• Do not bring valuables (cash, gold, jewelry) as storage is difficult

Current Medication Guidelines

Blood pressure medication:

• Take around 5 AM on screening day with small amount of water

Anticoagulants

• (warfarin, coumadin, heparin, Eliquis) and antithrombotics (aspirin, Plavix, Anplag, Pretal, Astrix): Discontinue after consulting with your prescribing physician

Diabetes medication and insulin injections:

• Do not take on screening day. For CT with contrast: Metformin medications (Diabex, Janumet, Glucophage XR) must be discontinued 2 days before, on the day of, and 2 days after screening

Examination-Specific Precautions

Endoscopy:

• Endoscopy may be restricted if you've had surgery or procedures (cardiovascular, cerebrovascular stents) within the past year
• No self-driving allowed on the day of sedated endoscopy

MRI/A:

• Examination may be restricted with pacemakers or metallic implants
  May be restricted for those with claustrophobia
