In August, I attended a Neosculpt demonstration at Oaro Dermatology Nowon branch.
Before that, I thought, "It's probably just another similar device... just under a different name, right?” because Ultherapy and Thermage are so well-known.
However, after watching the demonstration and listening to the doctor's explanation, I learned that each skincare device used in dermatology clinics has different strengths and characteristics.
So I asked the doctor at Oaro Dermatology a ton of questions and organized the information I got!
As you read, consider which treatment might be necessary and suitable for you.😉
I believe this will help you choose the most suitable treatment when you visit a dermatology clinic.
1️⃣ If These Three Skin Devices Were Characters
-
Ultherapy: "Painful but Powerful Queen"
→ One session brings back your jawline and tightens sagging skin. But while you’re lying there, it feels more like, ‘Beauty really does come at a price…’” 🔥😈🔥
-
Thermage: "Warm and Gentle Queen"
→ Softly manages skin texture and elasticity. Less painful but can't penetrate as deeply as Ultherapy.
-
Neosculpt: "All-Round Rising Star"
→ Takes care of lifting, elasticity, and skin texture all at once, with reasonable pricing. Much less painful - comfortable enough to chat during treatment. However, requires more frequent sessions than the other two!
2️⃣ Effect, Pain, and Price Comparison
| Comparison Point | Ultherapy | Thermage | Neosculpt |
| Target Layer | SMAS layer (deep) | Dermal layer (medium) | SMAS + dermal simultaneously + partial fat layer |
| Principle | Ultrasound(HIFU) | Radiofrequency (6.78MHz) | Radiofrequency (1MHz+2MHz) |
| Effect | Strong lifting | Skin texture & elasticity improvement | Lifting + elasticity + skin texture improvement + adjustable fat layer reduction |
| Pain | ★★★★☆ | ★★★☆☆ | ★☆☆☆☆ |
| Recovery time | 1-2 days | Almost none | Almost none |
| Treatment Cycle (for 1-year effect) |
Once every 6–12 months | Once every 6–12 months | 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart |
| Price (Korea standard) |
$$$$ | $$$ | $$ |
3️⃣ Choose Customized Treatment Based on Your Concerns!
💥"My jawline is collapsing and my smile lines are terrifying." → Ultherapy
Ultherapy directly targets the deep SMAS layer for powerful lifting effects — the go-to choice if you want dramatic results.
But be warned: during the treatment you might find yourself thinking, “Why on earth did I sign up for this?” because of the sharp, stinging sensation.
💆♀️“Facial elasticity is fading, and skin feels rough.” → Thermage
Radio frequency gently heats the skin from within to promote collagen production. Benefits include improved skin texture and increased elasticity. Experience almost no downtime, allowing you to return to your daily activities immediately after treatment.
🌀 “I want lift, elasticity, and smooth skin — everything… but my budget says no.” → Neosculpt
Radio frequency manages deep and shallow layers simultaneously. It adds elasticity to the skin while reducing fat layers. If you're dieting, you can also receive body treatments for body line tightening.
Less painful and reasonably priced, making it easy to start without a burden.
4️⃣ Find Out Your Skin Device Match: Checklist
If you have 2 or more items from a category, that type is your best choice!
-
When looking in the mirror, you think, "Where did my jawline go?"
-
In photos, your nasolabial folds stand out first.
-
"Pain? I can handle it. But the effect must be powerful."
→ ✅ Ultherapy Type ❤️🔥
-
Even with makeup, you may notice that your skin texture appears rough.
-
You think "I prefer gentle care".
-
You don’t want even one minute of recovery time.
→ ✅ Thermage Type 🌟
-
You want lifting, elasticity, and improved skin texture - everything.
-
“I want good results without breaking the bank.”
-
You prefer a comfortable setting where you can chat during treatment.
→ ✅ Neosculpt Type 🦋
5️⃣ Conclusion: The Best Treatment Is the One That Suits You!
All three devices have clear pros and cons.
Ultherapy offers powerful lifting, Thermage provides gentle elasticity and texture improvement, and Neosculpt delivers all-in-one value.
Rather than wondering ‘Which is the best?’, it’s smarter to choose based on your skin condition, budget, and concerns.
Luckily, dermatology clinics affiliated with The Pylon Club offer at least one of these treatments — Ultherapy, Thermage, or Neosculpt — making it easy to find the perfect match for your needs.
Expensive doesn't always mean better for your skin. If you already have deeply sunken cheeks, Ultherapy might make them appear even more hollow.
Cheaper doesn't necessarily mean shorter-lasting effects either. Results vary based on each person's skin condition, facial fat layer thickness, and elasticity of the fascia.
That’s exactly why a dermatology consultation is a must!
Before your consultation, it’s best to decide what results you want. Figure out whether your main goal is a sharper jawline or wrinkle reduction — pick one specific focus. Then, the professionals at the clinic can suggest treatments tailored to your goal.
