Paying Insurance? Don't Let Your Dental Cleaning Expire!

Mar 13, 2025

Hello dear EEUTs!

What pops into your mind when you think about a "dentist?"

For me, it's always that scary drilling sound and the smell of disinfectant. 😬 Maybe because of those painful memories of getting teeth pulled as a kid, even now as a grown-up, the dentist is still that "place I keep putting off going to." 🤣

However, if you want to avoid the really painful dental work (like root canals from cavities), you've gotta get regular check-ups and preventive care. It's a must! 🦷

Brushing your teeth well is vital for preventing oral issues, and we know it all. But getting a professional "dental cleaning(scaling)" occasionally is a whole different story! 🩺

But here's the thing - if you're working in Korea and paying for health insurance, you can get this treatment at a cheap price once a year!

Curious about the perks of scaling and what insurance benefits you might get? Check out this article for all the deets! 🥰

1. Is dental cleaning the best for preventing gum disease?

Let's talk about dental cleaning(scaling) - this cool dental procedure removes plaque and tartar to prevent and treat oral diseases.

It's so good at prevention that dentists say you should get it done at least once a year, even if your teeth seem fine!

Here's what dental cleaning(scaling) can do for you:

  • Gives your teeth a clean surface

  • Keeps gum disease away by getting rid of gunk between your teeth and gums

  • Makes your breath fresher

Dental cleaning(scaling) is incredibly excellent at preventing gum disease.

If tartar builds up, it can lead to inflammation and even severe gum and tooth problems (periodontal disease). Yikes!

If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause the gums to recede or even lead to tooth loss. That's why the Korean National Health Insurance Service also recommends getting this procedure!

2. Paying national health insurance? Get cheap scaling once a year!

Good news! The Korean National Health Insurance Service covers dental cleaning(scaling) to eliminate that pesky tartar that causes gum problems.

If you're over 19 and paying the national health insurance, you can get scaling for only about 18,000 won once a year! 🌟

Health insurance coverage for scaling is applied on a yearly basis, so if you don't receive the treatment between January 1st and December 31st of the current year, you'll lose the opportunity for health insurance coverage for that year.

Therefore, if you haven't had scaling done yet, visit a dental clinic right away!

3. Teeth feeling sensitive after dental cleaning?

Dental cleaning(scaling) is a safe procedure that won't wear down or damage the teeth.

However, there may be a temporary symptom of tooth sensitivity after the procedure. This is because the plaque, which was enveloping the teeth, has been removed, and the tooth surface is suddenly exposed, making it highly sensitive to external stimuli!

Most of the sensitivity symptoms will subside within 1-2 weeks, so it's best to avoid very cold or stimulating foods during this period!

You may also feel that there is a space-like sensation between your teeth after scaling. This is because the gaps between the teeth have become more visible as the plaque has been removed.

As the swollen gums return to their original state, the spaces between the teeth become more noticeable. This can be seen as a positive sign that the scaling was done well! 🙌

***

When you get dental cleaning(scaling) done, your teeth might feel sensitive or a bit sore. And yeah, there might be some bleeding when they're scraping off that tartar. 😫🦷

But if you stick with it and get this done once a year, it's super helpful for preventing gum disease, cavities, and other mouth problems!

So if you're paying health insurance, don't miss out on this benefit!

Take good care of your smile, everyone!
